These PSAC regional conventions are very important events; the National Component believes it is essential that every local is present to have their members’ voices heard. Many decisions are made at these conventions, which affect the direction of our union. We also elect Regional Executive Vice-Presidents, who are part of the highest level of leadership within our union. Because of the importance we place on these conventions, the National Component has decided to fully fund all our delegates to these PSAC regional conventions. Most PSAC regions have some form of subsidy for locals to allow them to send delegates to conventions. However, it is not full funding. Therefore, the National Component will top up all funding from the PSAC regions to promote our delegates’ attendance.
What the National Component will pay for:
Child care costs will normally be paid by the PSAC region. Unfortunately, the National Component is unable to fund local observers to the conventions, but we encourage locals to do so. For British Columbia only: Because the delegate entitlement for the British Columbia Regional Convention is calculated quite differently, special rules apply. BC delegates receive almost full funding, except for loss of salary. The National Component will pay loss of salary to these delegates. In addition, for BC only, the National Component will fully fund at least one observer from each of our BC locals, including all costs as listed above. To receive funding, National Component delegates (and BC observers) simply need to complete National Component claim forms after their convention. PSAC regional subsidies will be subtracted from the claims, as appropriate. Delegates requiring advances may request them. Please allow enough time to process your request. The National Component can also help with travel arrangements through our official travel agent, who bills the component directly.
