The Human Rights Committee of the National Component was created by the National Executive, based on a National Component Policy Statement adopted by the 1978 National Component Convention. The National Component promotes human rights and equity for all members, regardless of sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression, age, mental or physical ability, Aboriginal (First Nations, Métis or Inuit), race, colour, creed, ethnic/national origin, religious belief, political belief, marital status and conviction for which a pardon has been granted.
