The Human Rights CommitteeThe Human Rights Committee of the National Component was created by the National Executive, based on a National Component Policy Statement adopted by the 1978 National Component Convention. The National Component promotes human rights and equity for all members, regardless of sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression, age, mental or physical ability, Aboriginal (First Nations, Métis or Inuit), race, colour, creed, ethnic/national origin, religious belief, political belief, marital status and conviction for which a pardon has been granted. Human Rights Committee MembershipThe membership of the Human Rights Committee consists of the National Vice President for Human Rights, Assistant National Vice President for Human Rights, and 10 Human Rights representatives and their alternates, who represent members in their respective regions including countries outside Canada. In addition, there are five Equity Representatives representing Aboriginal people, racialized members, women, people with disabilities and LGBT members. The Human Right Committee holds at least two meetings per year, and in the interim, conducts their business via teleconference calls and e-mails. Currently the Human Rights Committee is:
