BURSARY FOR ADULT MEMBER
TO INSTITUTE OF HIGHER LEARNING
- The Component will pay the tuition fee only of a member in good standing attending a part-time course in Industrial Relations, Labour Affairs, or other Union-oriented courses; this with the object of increasing their knowledge and ability to participate in Union activities.
- Applications will be dealt with in order of receipt and the total amount disbursed will not exceed $1,000. per annum.
- Applicants are encouraged to provide full information necessary on their initial application.
Note: Part-time courses are intended to mean C.L.C. Summer School, evening and weekend course at colleges and universities.
Provided applications meet the above criteria, the National President is authorized to make the necessary payment, in order to meet any time limitations involved. The Honours and Educational Awards Committee shall be kept informed of all applicants and decisions.
ALFRED PAPINEAU BURSARY
The Union of National Employees will provide an annual bursary in the amount of $500.00 to a member who is attending a part-time course (such as C.L.C. summer or winter school, evening or weekend courses, District Labour Council courses, etc. - not to include PSAC courses) with the object of increasing one's knowledge and/or ability to participate in union activities.
The Alfred Papineau Bursary is awarded in memory of Brother Alf Papineau, a former member of the National Executive who firmly believed in active participation in the union and in assisting his fellow human beings.
ELIGIBILITY:
- The Bursary is offered to Union of National Employees members in good standing.
- Employees of the Union of National Employees are not eligible.
- The Bursary can only be awarded once to the same individual.

REQUIREMENTS
- The member must submit a completed application form to the Component office prior to August 31st.
- The Bursary shall not be disbursed until evidence is received of the candidate's registration for the course.
- The Bursary can be split and awarded to more than one candidate as long as the total amount awarded does not exceed $500.00.

LAURIER AUGER BURSARY
The Union of National Employees each year offers one (1) $2,000. bursary awarded on both Need and Scholastic achievement, with NEED taking precedence. Need is to be determined by questionnaire to be completed by applicant.
The Laurier Auger Bursary is offered by the Union of National Employees in honour of Mr. Laurier Auger, a former member of the Union of National Employees. Laurier Auger served on the Executive of the Union of National Employees from June 1972 to April 1974. Laurier Auger performed his functions as an Executive Officer of this Component in a most competent manner and, unfortunately, had his career and life cut short through a car accident in April 1974.
ELIGIBILITY:
- This Bursary is offered to Union of National Employees members in good standing, spouses of members in good standing and dependent children of members in good standing.
- Dependent children and spouses of members who have deceased during the previous twelve (12) months shall be eligible for this Bursary.
- Employees of the Union of National Employees and their children are not eligible to apply.
- The Bursary can only be awarded once to the same person.
REQUIREMENTS:
- The member, the spouse of the member, or dependent of member must submit a completed application form to the Component Office prior to June 30th.
- The recipient must be entering the first year of Post Secondary Education.
- In submitting an application, each candidate shall be required to write a qualifying essay (250) words about the Canadian Labour movement, preferably related to the PSAC. This essay will be judged under the following criteria: originality, clarity, research and layout, with each of these criteria worth 25 marks, or a total of 100 marks.
- A letter of recommendation written by a principal, teacher or other person capable of judging the applicant's worth, shall accompany the application. This letter should include a transcript of the applicant's marks.
- The Bursary shall not be disbursed until evidence is received of the candidate's attendance at the educational institute.
- Half the money shall be awarded for the first semester and the second half shall be awarded at the beginning of the second semester, providing that the recipient is still in attendance at the same level of institute.
- All applications for the Laurier Auger Bursary shall be referred to the Standing Committee of the National Executive on Honours and Educational Awards. The Committee shall review all applications and make appropriate recommendations to the National Executive.
NOTE: The Union of National Employees reserves the right to withhold the granting of the Bursary if no applicant is deemed qualified.
The Laurier Auger Bursary shall be reviewed annually.
